This was Alina’s third Consecutive year as a BroadwayWorld Orlando Awards nominee. In 2018, she won Best Supporting Actress in a Musical (Professional), as well as being named Critic’s Pick for Featured Actress in a Musical, by Matt Palm of the Orlando Sentinel - this was part of his year-end review Orlando Theater Best of 2018: Critic’s Picks , a very popular and awaited review among readers!
Both these recognitions are for Alina’s performance as Abuela Claudia, from last year’s production of “In The Heights” at Orlando Shakes.
”Alina Alcántara is the heart and soul of the neighborhood-and the show-as the endearing Abuela Claudia…[she] connects emotionally with the audience from the moment she enters, but keeps them close to her heart throughout the show…” (McKenzie Lakey, Broadway World Orlando)
“…as the neighborhood matriarch, Alina Alcántara goes well beyond being the heart of the show. Combining a twinkle of glee, an air of thankfulness, a pragmatic optimism and a hefty dose of spirit, she’s this show’s soul as well. Alcántara makes you see why this is a neighborhood worth living in.” (Matt Palm, Orlando Sentinel)
